Since the two of them were going to perform the duet, Sisters, from the musical White Christmas, she and Amy would need to practice. Especially if they wanted to get the choreography right.
So, Kat invited Amy to join her in her "office/ops/studio" that she'd set up. With the bed and dresser, she really didn't have the space she needed in her quarters for a studio, but emptying an unused room worked fine. All she really needed was a desk, a closet, a couch, and a large mirror. And, the adjoining bathroom if it became necessary.
She'd taken the time to design and replicate a set of fans for the song, as well as costumes. The fans were on the couch. The two dresses hung in the closet with her other costumes. Now that she admitted to doing fan dances, she didn't feel the need to hide them anymore.
That segment of the movie, White Christmas was cued up, ready to watch, as was the soundtrack. It just needed the two of them to come up with the choreography and practice.
"Oh, love your studio, Katya!" were the first words out of Amy's mouth when she walked in.
"How did I not know about this beforehand?" Amy having an interested gleam in her eyes. "What cunning plan do you have in mind?"
"Because I kept it quiet. I have one on the Adelaide, too. But, now that we're doing the vaudeville show, I can admit that I have a dance studio--at least to a few people. It's also my office, so it does double duty."
Amy chuckled when she heard this. "And my not knowing should let you know that I don't go pry into personal business of the crew, unless it is deemed necessary."
She walked over to where the feather fans were, reaching out to caress the soft feathers, "I'm glad that you mentioned that you do a fan dance, and I really think you could pull that off." turning to look at Katya.
"That remains to be seen. I've been practicing since we were on the Adelaide." Kat nodded to the mirror. "That's my audience and my camera. I record all my sessions, then watch them to figure out ways to improve. We can do the same thing," she added. "Perform to the mirror, then watch the recording to see what we need to fix."
"I would like to see them, sometime, that is, if you don't mind." Amy responded quietly.
She looked towards the view screen. her face lighting up when she realized the scene it was waiting to be watched.
"That looks very familiar. A scene from White Christmas?" Amy's smile turned into a full on grin.
Kat grinned. "Well, if we're going to do the duet, we need to be familiar with it. Not that we need to duplicate either routine, but knowing it will help us adapt our own routine to keep the general feel of the number--at least for us. I doubt anyone else will recognize it."
"I agree." Amy was excited for this, matter of fact she'd not gotten to perform anything like this ever. Most of the time, in her previous intelligence life it had been mostly a solo act.
Kat nodded. "I agree. So, first, let's watch." She indicated the two chairs. As soon as they were both seated, she played the scene with both parts. First, with Rosemary Cluney, then second with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
Amy watched with great delight, watching the movement. When Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby came on, she laughed outright. She loved that part.
"They certainly had good chemistry." looking towards Katya.
Kat chuckled. "Which pair?" Personally, she thought they all did.
"I could answer it with yes? Actually, all of them do. Just looking at them, watching them and how they react with each other. It is there." Amy giving a smile.
"So," Kat began. "The question now is...fans or no fans?"
"That number most definitely needs fans. I can't think of them not having then or even us dancing that number without the fans." Amy chuckled.
"I agree." Kat grinned. "Now, what color--or colors--do you want? Then I'll replicate a pair and we can get used to the balance and use."
"Well, looking at both of our skin tones and also the color of our hair, we do need something that looks like our own style and looks good as well. Something dramatic? Sapphire blue for either the dresses or fans?" Amy considering choices that could work.
"I like sapphire blue, but I wouldn't call it dramatic." Kat shrugged. "Dramatic is hot pink or ruby read." Then she grinned. "Ruby likes to wear red." She paused for a moment. "I think blue would be good for the dresses. We'll need something that contrasts well for the fans. Then can be cream, red, or pale green. Or even a light blue. What do you think?"
"Ruby wears red... hmmnn" Amy mused, "You know, for a good contrast, let’s have the fans a dark red, like a ruby or even another shade of red. Something just a match for sapphire blue."
"We could see how it looks." Kat replicated two dresses, both knee-length with enough fabric to move as they danced. The tops, however, were different. One dress was sleeveless with a deep V-neck. The other was a Grecian style with one shoulder bare.
Kat handed Amy the dress with the V-neck and took the other one behind a screen in the corner and quickly changed.
When she was dressed, she replicated two sets of fans. One in a deep cream, the other in dark red.
While Katya was changing it didn't take Amy long to slip into her own outfit, when Katya stepped out, she pursed her lips into a soft whistle.
"You're devastating, in that outfit Katya." Amy having a warm smile. "Heaven help the men who see you."
Amy not embarrassed by her comment for the cut of the dress was fitting for Katya, she called it as she saw it.
Kat's thoughts went immediately to Rhu. Then she mentally chastised herself for doing so. "You look great, too. the color you picked is perfect. Now, let's see how they look with the fans."
She replicated two pair. One a deep cream, the other, a dark red. "For now, we'll each take one and see how they look in the mirror. I'll also be recording this, so we can watch ourselves."
She handed Amy a dark red fan and took a cream one herself. "The first time through, we'll do whatever we feel works. Then we'll see how it looks and choreograph from there."
She paused, then added. "I'll be the older sister."
Older sister, Amy nodded, "That sounds great." And it happened to be true, looking at Katya, the lady was older than her. And well, she didn't have a sister either. All boys.
As Katya moved towards the mirror, Amy caught sight of something,
"Katya, you have a tattoo. Where did you get it and I have a tattoo as well. I have no clue as to where it came from."
Turning her back to show Katya. A sword with a rose entwined around it on her left shoulder. At the moment it was silent.
"Remember when we had the EMHs clear us for duty? One of them. Trans? Gave me the tattoo. I think that's where you got it, too." Kat shrugged. "Most of the time, mine is either a glass slipper and a rose, or a pink panther--using from behind--moving to whatever music its playing."
Amy gave out a little bit of a laugh, "Your tattoo is interchangeable. That is fascinating."
She turned back to the fans, “I am liking this set up, and lets definitely get our routine put together."
The thought though of the Pink Panther theme song showing up tickled Amy's funny bone, where she started humming the theme song and snapping the fingers of one hand.
"You know, that can be a rather saucy song to dance to." giving a rather keen look towards Katya.
"Plus, I highly suspect that you've danced a routine to that before." giving a wink to Katya, Amy grinning from ear to ear.
"Maybe..." was all Kat would admit to. "But yes, the tattoo does seem to change. But so far, I've only noticed the slipper and rose and the pink panther. What about yours?"
"Mine is a sword with a rose wrapped around it. It plays music but I've not noticed it changing into something else. I think that is pretty cool about your tattoo." Amy giving a smile
Amy looked at the fans both she and Katya held.
"Shall we work out our choreography?" Opening her fan, and running one of her hands across the feathers. "I sure love the feeling of the softness of the fan."
"Me, too. Yes. We'll take it four measures at a time," Kat said. "This will take a bit of work, but we have the time." The she opened her fan and positioned in front of her. "Computer, from the top."
