Mission:
Operation Kakori
Location: Transporter Room 2 - Deck 2 - USS Valiant
Timeline: MD002 0815 hrs
A notification came to Edmund's PADD, there was a new addition to the team to the Cure. Sergeant Kyle Walken. Arrival time, coming onboard soon, very soon. He leaned against the wall of the transporter room, waiting.
"New blood." Edmund commented, "Hopefully he's got the chops to be a part of a team. Though with Commandant Lassard having sent the sergeant, can't be refusing."
He folded his arms waiting, and hoping that this Sergeant Walken would prove to be more capable than a former member of the Cure.
Neil winced at the notice. "Well. There goes operational security." He instructed Rommie to update the Valiant's Operations department (which had been operating under the USS Raiden's transponder). "Why is the Commandant sending us a sergeant?" He asked more to himself than Ed, since they both had mostly the same intel. "Another set of hands will be useful, but who...."
"Read your Commandant into a compartmentalized, supposedly classified mission brief?," Rhu asked from the Transport Room one's hatch. "Pretty much only one place, though we'll be back checking," Rhu assured the two marines. "Your new Sergeant will be beaming aboard in couple of minutes and berthing has been arranged and uploaded. Once that's complete, we're off. They're lucky they caught us before we jumped out."
The Valiant's CO looked at the silent transporter Tech and said, "Chief, you know the drill. Let the bridge know as soon as Sergeant Walken is aboard."
"Aye aye, Commander," Biv said as he tried not to show his irritation. He had work to be doing other than waiting on a bunch of Marines to get themselves squared away.
Rhu nodded to the Colonel and Major, then headed back to his bridge.
Kyle would materialize on the transporter pad, a container slung over his shoulder with only his necessities. Taking a moment to check the rank pins of the people in the room he would salute. "Sergeant Kyle Walken reporting as ordered by Field Marshall Lassard, sirs." He would hold out his hand with the PADD containing his transfer orders.
Neil took the proffered PADD, keying it through eye-flick commands on his contact with a few beats, scanning the pertenants and passing it toward the Major. "Welcome aboard, Sergeant Walken," he said as a snap-shot bio and pertinents scrolled through his HUD. "I'm Colonel Tremble, XO of the Pioneer and Brigade Commander. This is Major Merrick, CO of the Cure. He'll get you squared away. Your joining us like this is something of an oddity, and we won't slow down for you to get caught up. As they say, the only easy day was yesterday."
Looking at Ed, Neil said, "He's all yours, Ed. find me later and I can help fine tune walk through scenarios for the VR training."
"Alright Colonel" Ed answered watching Neil walk away then turned towards Walken. "Lets get you a bunk," he began, "And you best change your clothing to civvies, where we are going, the uniform is going to stick out like a sore thumb."
Edmund would be changing to his civvies as well.
"As you can tell your arrival was unexpected. Tell me a little bit about yourself that's not on your file. What sort of skills."
Kyle takes a moment, "Not a whole lot to say, most of my practical skills are in my file. Marksman, Recon, Maintenance...something not in my file is I'm trained in use of the Klingon Bat'leth thanks to an old friend. Anything else wouldn't be useful in the mission."
"Bat'leth, really good weapon. I know how to use one as well." Edmund replied "Okay to catch you up we're going to be going into enemy territory, doing a snatch and grab of a wanted person. We're in the planning stages right now."
Merrick stopped in front of a door. "Get changed and I'll meet you out in the hall five minutes or less."
Edmund leaving to get changed himself, he attire was that of brown cargo pants, black vest with a dark grey long sleeve shirt, and older boots nothing spit shine about them and waited for Kyle to make his appearance.
Kyle would open his container with the few things he brought with him. His standard uniform was remove and folded neatly taking the place of the clothing he would be wearing. Black cargo pants followed by his boots. A gray short sleeve shirt, he looks at his flannel and isn't sure if that was too casual so he folds it back up. Sealing his bag he would exit the room and present himself to the Major.
A quick once over, Edmund nodded in approval "That works. I saw maintenance, in your file but there is just the bare bones, what are you familiar with? Do you know how to work with computers? What sort of tech work can you do? I am needing details in order to know what team to put you on."
"It's more of the guts of the computers sir, I manage general maintenance. Working on the control panels and the inner wiring. Anything from a door control, a turbolift, to the inners of the CONN." Kyle answered.
"That will work out nicely just in case we are needing an alternate way out. Have you been a part of a retrieval mission?" Edmund needed all of the information he could get from Kyle.
"No. I'm normally part of the team sent to recon out where the target is and then provide overwatch while the main force engages."
Edmund nodded, "Alright that is good to know. we've got a few people for you to meet. The two who had been here the first was Colonel Tremble, the other was the CO of this vessel. Have you had anything to eat?"
"Understood, just a protein bar to keep me going today. Not a full meal yet." He was honest, with the sudden orders to transfer out here with almost none of personal belongings a meal wasn't the first thing on his mind.
Edmund gave a nod as the two men walked towards where the messhall was. " A protein bar is all good in a pinch." he began, "But lets get you fixed up with a full meal. Don't want you to be dropping to the floor due to hunger when on the mission."
"I won't say no to a meal but it will be a few days before I'm on the floor because of hunger."
Edmund had an amused expression in his eyes. "Just looking out for my people. And I can see that you're not gonna fall to the floor very easily." walking easliy beside Kyle.
"You'll be joining a good team." he added before they stepped into the messhall. "and maybe you'll meet some of them inside." motioning towards the door of the messhall.
"Make certain you get to know them, they're good people." Edmund added pausing to look at Walken.
"That's the plan boss, doesn't do much to help with a unit if I don't at least attempt to make myself know and try to get to know them. Any specific ones you think I should go to first?"
"We'll see who is in the messhall, this is a small ship and so won't be too difficult to meet up with them. Lets go see who is in the messhall. " Edmund said decisively,
"You got it boss." With that Kyle steps inside into his new life with a new battalion.
