Captain’s log, Rhupert Tyree commanding aboard the SS. Adelaide.

While following leads chasing down rumors that I believe are accurate on the Ashen Hand, Adelaide picked up an odd distress call from one Proctor Amalian Dreth of Avan’s Colony. This Colony is located on Quatral Prime, a world in the Cardassian side of the often contested border with the Federation. The Planet is infamous for having started out as a Cardassian mining world where they concentrated their efforts on harvesting Hydrogen from the atmosphere and converting it to deuterium for antimatter power sources.

In early 2373, the Maquis attacked the planet with Cobolt Diselenide, a biogenic weapon deadly to Cardassians only. This drove the population off world and the Maquis later colonized the world themselves in the middle of 2373 only to have the Cardassian-Domion forces wipe them out in the latter part of the year.

Fast forward to now, from what we can gather so far a group of colonists banded together to try and make a go of the mining operation, renaming it Avan’s Colony. They’ve built upon existing, former, infrastructure. All things were going well until about a week ago when what appeared to be a cold that was running through the colony turn into something else. They suspect their environmental system but haven’t been able to run that down.

There are odd things about this colony though. The mayday signal we received was using an old, but still valid Cardassian channel but it seemed to degrade and was barely a whisper of what it should be. I ordered Adelaide to assist and briefed the crew with what little we could put together. I worry I’m risking all of them in running down this emergency and likely putting our mission in jeopardy, but we’re only StarFleet adjacent, not given up the values that make a Fleet crew.

I’ve left the away team in the trusted hands of my XO like a good little Captain. So I’m alone in the Adelaide doing what I can to keep busy.

It’s lonely at the top..

END
